Summer 2018

Larch Hill Family Farm

Mary Ellen Frame, a respected elder and pioneer in organic agriculture, (helped start the Sustainable Farming Association and Just Food Co-op) grew up on Larch Hill farm. Originally purchased in 1943, Mary-Ellen and her family have continued their legacy and connection to the farm for 75 years. During spring of 2018, the Frame-Lessing family welcomed us onto their land to restore 7 acres of mature walnut grove pasture and mixed deciduous forest with our flock.

During this project we field-tested our rotational grazing method and established our flock. By diversifying their diet from mixed grasses to forage (buckthorn, berry briars, and unwanted saplings), our flock transformed dense thickets into a clear, manageable, and aesthetically pleasing, working landscape.
